The iOS Mail app is horrible at discerning which are important (from real people I know or critical alerts, such as banks, airlines etc.) and the bazillions of marketing emails. The search is very spotty too. In then end, though, it is forced to use IMAP, since that is all Google exposes to third party mail clients. Certain fancy pants Gmail features will only be available via the Web, since Google does not offer an actual Gmail app for Windows. FYI, when you add your Google account to Windows via Mail, it also adds your Google Calendar and Contacts. For me two things helped: Go to accounts open your google account and go to the sync settings. Look for gmail. Usually you will see a pretty outdated timestamp for the last sync. Gmail app stopped syncing IMAP accounts. I've got a few IMAP accounts in the Gmail app on my Pixel 7Pro. Since a couple of days ago they have stopped syncing. If I clear cache storage in the app, the accounts resume syncing but only for a short while.
